Uudelleen muotoiltu 80-luku / Redesigned 80's

Sanotaan, että Cinderella (valmistunut 1989) on hieman suurennettu versio Mariellasta (1985). Siljan 80 luvun puolivälissä valmistuneet Turun-linjan Wellamo ja Svea puolestaan ovat selkeästi muunnelma Helsingin-linjan Finlandiasta (1981) ja Silvia Reginasta (1981). Eräänä tylsänä iltana neljä vuotta sitten pohdiskelin sitä, miltä kovin laatikkomaiset esikuvalaivat olisivat voineet näyttää kehitelmien ulkomuodoilla, siis Mariella Cinderellan pyöreämmillä muodoilla, ja Finlandia Wellamon. Piirros on vain nopea alle tunnin projekti, enkä ole kiinnittänyt suuremmin huomiota oikeisiin mittasuhteisiin tai suurempaan viimeistelyyn...

The Cinderella (built in 1989) is apparenty a slightly bigger version of the Mariella (1985). Silja Line's Turku-Stockholm ferries from the mid-80's, the Svea and the Wellamo were also developed from the company' previous newbuilds on the Helsinki-Stockholm-line, the Finlandia and the Silvia Regina (both 1981). In one boring evening four years ago I started thinking how the "predecessors" could have looked with their "successors'" design. The drawing itself was just a quick one hour's project with no bigger focus on final touches or correct scale...

"Stella Maris" oli toinen Mariellalle ehdotetuista nimistä Viking Linen historiikin mukaan. Silja Staria puolestaan kaavailtiin Silvia Reginalle, ennen kuin Silja Line-liikenteen sisällä tapahtuneiden laivojen omistajanvaihdosten myötä se annettiin toiselle lautalle.
According to the history of Viking Line, the name Stella Maris was one proposal for the ship that later became Mariella. Skandia was originally planned for Finlandia, but this changed due to another ferry getting the name after ownership-changes inside the Silja-traffic.
